RAJA
BELL AND TACO BELL RESTAURANTS HELP RAISE
MORE THAN $60,000 FOR TEEN AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS
(PHOENIX)
May 14, 2007—He shoots. He scores! With the
help of Phoenix Suns Star Raja Bell, Taco Bell®
restaurants in the Phoenix area raised $63,000 during
a two-week fundraiser to support teen programs at
Boys & Girls Clubs.
On
April 18 Raja Bell traded his jersey for a headset
and worked the drive-thru at the Taco Bell®
restaurant located at 4351 W. Olive in Glendale
for a whirlwind two-hour shift. With more than 50
cars lined up at the Drive Thru throughout the event,
Phoenix fans came out strong to support Bell and
local Boys & Girls Clubs. “I was overwhelmed
by the response,” said Bell. “Since
I used to work at a Taco Bell restaurant, this was
like a step back in time for me. It’s rewarding
to see how Phoenix residents showed their support
for Boys & Girls Clubs and the future of our
teens.”
The
“Tacos for Teens” fundraiser awarded
customers making a $1 donation with a coupon for
a free crunchy beef taco. One hundred twenty-one
Taco Bell restaurants located in Maricopa, Coconino,
Pinal, Gila, Graham, Yavapai, Apache, La Paz, and
Navajo counties participated in the fundraiser which
ended May 1.
The
money raised will directly benefit Boys & Girls
Clubs Valley of the Sun and its programs designed
to help teens stay in school and reach their full
potential in life. Funds will be used for “Late
Night” weekend events such as sports tournaments,
open-mike nights and dances. Donations will also
support the Arizona State Keystone Conference, an
annual leadership event planned and attended by
more than 100 of Arizona’s Boys & Girls
Club teens.
The
fundraiser was the latest of several local efforts
to raise money and awareness for the life-changing
programs created for teens at Phoenix area Boys
& Girls Clubs. Since 2004, area Taco Bell®
restaurants have donated nearly $100,000 to fund
teen programs at local Clubs as well as the Arizona
State Keystone Conference.
“This
fundraiser exceeded all of our expectations,”
said Mark Petersen, Taco Bell franchisee and president
of the Phoenix Area Taco Bell Restaurant Association.
“With the generous donations of our customers,
along with the support of people like Raja Bell,
the teens right here in Phoenix will benefit from
important programs that only the Boys & Girls
Clubs can provide.”
